I like several genres of music, but I think the music you listen to while coming of age has special significance to most people. Growing up, I heard a lot of music from the 50’s & early 60’s because that’s what my parents listened to. I have a box full of 45 records from that era that I inherited from them, but of all the albums that my parents owned, I confiscated only one of them as a teenager:

The Best of Peter, Paul and Mary: 10 Years Together

I’m guessing this choice probably says a lot about my high school years. I was quite the introvert and lived in my room instead of running around town. I guess that’s why the soulful sounds of this album appealed to me. Every song told a story and got you thinking. This is one of those albums that I can still sing all the words to – in private, without an audience. How can you not sing along to such songs as: Blowing in the Wind, Leaving on a Jet Plane, or If I Had a Hammer? Of all the songs on the album, though, my favorite is Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right. It’s originally a Bob Dylan song, but I think the Peter, Paul and Mary version packs more of an emotional punch. I guess that’s why they are the epitome of Folk Music.
