Why I Blog

I started writing a blog a few years ago, mostly because it is expected of a writer.  I’ve heard many reasons why:  Publishers want a writer with an online presence; Readers want to know more about their favorite writer; or because it helps to keep in practice by writing regularly.  I can’t say that I thought it through when I started my first blog and as a result I didn’t do a very good job.  I saw it as another pain in the butt writing activity I had to do and I didn’t blog regularly.

This time around, I actually have an idea why I’m blogging.  I’m doing it to share with my readers.  Okay, so I don’t have many readers and I don’t even know if anyone that reads this blog has read my books.  Still, I decided to go forward with the idea that readers will find me eventually.

This blog is primarily about writing, but I also want to talk about my other passions.  It took me awhile to realize it, but I’m pretty much a nerd.  (I hope my daughter is not reading this because I’ll get an “I told you so.”)  I’ve always loved history and fantasy stories.  I read mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and historical fiction.  I like gaming and anime and music.  I’ve never been much of a sports lover or into outdoor activities like hunting or fishing, although I do enjoy camping and hiking on occasion.  I’m also into gardening.

So you can expect to hear about not just writing, but my favorite music, games, anime, books and maybe the occasional gardening tip.  On rare occasions I might even talk about my day job – power plants.

I hope this blog is not only informative, but entertaining.
